Demeter was the goddess of corn, grain, the harvest, nature, and the earth, or in other words she was the goddess of agriculture. She allowed the crops to grow each year. The first loaf of bread from the harvest each year was often sacrificed to her. Livestock, agricultural products, poppy, narcissus, and the crane were said to be sacred to her. She was also known to be the goddess of fertility in general. Along with other gods and goddesses, Demeter lived on Mount Olympus.
